What are the facts about dental braces for kids? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends the orthodontist see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required, or to determine the best time for the patient to be treated.Usually we will watch your child grow up. Normally the optimal time for treatment is when kids are hitting their growth spurt, which in females is 10.5-11 years, while in males it is 11-11.5 years old. Timing at these ages allows us to use orthodontic mechanics to guide growth in a favorable direction.Occasionally we will start some type of early treatment only if there is an underlying skeletal problem. Such problems include narrow arch widths, spacing problems, deep bite tendencies, and open bite tendencies. Generally, our office is more conservative, and will only intervene early when it is necessary. At the initial examination Dr. Engen will be able to determine if any early treatment is necessary for your child.
Dr. David has a wonderful chairside manner, just as his father did when I saw him many years ago. He made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Engen and his office staff to anyone whose child was apprehensive about having braces. Other than the high level of professionalism, I appreciate the down-play of cutsie-pie gimmicks for kids. He thoroughly explained everything to us right from the start.

Because of the internet information provided about his background and education, I feel I have a top level, up-to-date professional taking care of me.

State of the art care! I like the “get it right” attitude. After eight years I have not had one negative experience.

Dr. Engen was great! He explained my diagnosis and the procedure required thoroughly. I was even asked if I liked the colors of paint for the office.
