Emergencies(Orthodontics)

Broken brackets or loose bands

Call our office as soon as possible if you break or loosen any of your appliances. Please do not come directly to the
office – by calling us, you will allow us to create a time to see you. Even if you have a regular appointment scheduled,
call us immediately to notify us if you need an appliance repaired.

Poking wires

Call our office. Please do not come directly to the office – by calling us, you will allow us to create a time to see you. In
the meantime use some wax to relieve the area of irritation until we can see you.

Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment

When you first start orthodontic treatment you will likely feel some pain, soreness, or discomfort. This is because your
teeth are not yet used to moving. Once the cells in your body are stimulated for orthodontic movement you will have
minimal discomfort. You may take Tylenol or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. A
warm wash cloth or heating pad may reduce the soreness in your jaws.

My separators came out

Separators make it easier for us to fit bands at the time of banding and bonding of your braces. If you are more than
48 hours away from your band/bond appointment, please call our office to have new separators placed. If separators
come out frequently and readily, then your teeth are probably loose enough for us to fit bands.

I lost my retainer

As we stressed when your braces came off, retention is a lifetime process. If you have lost your retainer, you need to
contact us immediately so a new one can be made for you.
